How to develop pre-writing skills in toddler

You cannot expect you child start writing when he/she turns three as its not something which they can start practicing with ease. It requires some pre writing activities to be practiced by the kids in order to be able to start the basics of writing. Many things or toys which we see in the market are actually having that intention to thrive your kid towards the writing skill. It may seems as if the kid is actually doing a simple thing while they are playing, but in fact they are actually learning in every activity which they do from the time they are awake till they sleep. And as a parent knowing and studying about these toddler activities can help them gain confidence so we are sharing few of such activities which can help your child prepared before he starts writing(12 to 30 months).

Scribbling

You should have seen kids scribbling on walls and papers and as a parent you should have shouted at them for damaging your magazines and walls. But in fact scribbling is the first step of writing it’s that stage when they learn how to hold a pencil between the fingers. It teaches them how to move their hands and help in developing motor skills.

Posting 

You might have seen toys with holes above in different shapes where the kids should drop the small blocks of various shapes into it. This kind of toys can help to develop their observing skills, concentration and hand to eye coordination

Blocks and Shapes

Building blocks and rings which can be kept one over the other to form shapes and blocks this can help to improve the creativity and designing skills of toddler and keep them engaging for hours. This will also improve their concentration and observing skills.

Containers, Vessels, Spoons

Even small jars containing water or beans can also be very fascinating to a kid. The sounds which which comes from it on shaking, the waves formed in water all this will make the kid happy but make sure to be with him while he is playing with water. Also spoon is one of the favorite thing for them as it’s something which feeds him daily. Allowing the kid to feed himself is also a good idea to let him develop his motor and coordination skills. Even though they will make a mess around the area.

Pouring

Again a simple practical life activity. Letting them pour stuff from one container to other boosts their concentration, hand-eye coordination and hand and finger strength. You can start with dry pouring like beans or puffed rice and when it is mastered, you can try wet pouring (water or juice).

You should have noticed the expression on a kids face while they are playing with water, just give them two glass and a little water you can see them transferring the water from one glass to another or some may pour it on the floor and will tap their hands on it splashing water all over.

All this is minute gestures which they show as a self-learning process do discover the world around them. And as parents we should observe and encourage such activities by them.
