To be born and brought up in a place where legends like V. Dakshinamoorthy, veteran Carnatic musician and music director started their life was always blissful for Gowry Lekshmi as she takes pride while saying that she is from Alappuzha known to the world as Venice of the East and the third cleanest town in India.
Gowry Lekshmi, The youngest music director in India who debuted as a professional music director at an age of 13 in Malayalam film industry. Gowri began learning music when she was three and by the time she reached her fourth grade, she started writing songs. Well yes you read it right and that’s what makes Gowry Lekshmi unique artist and a true prodigy in all aspects. She did BA Music course in RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Thrippunithura and further mastering the same with MA from Kerala University. She then took the train to Chennai for training in western music under the renowned music master, Voice trainer and conductor par excellence, Augustine Paul.
Musical legend and eight times National award winner Padma Vibhushan K. J. Yesudas, his son Vijay Yesudas, Shweta Mohan are few singers who have sung for Gowry Lekshmi’s tunes. She got her big break, when her composition was selected by ace Mollywood Director Roshan Andrews for a Mohanlal starrer movie Casanovva which was released in 2012. Since then she has been concentrating on independent music and has released almost 20 independent songs all written, composed and sung by her.
Her recent release was “Aaaro Nenjil” from the Movie Godha under the direction of Shaan Rahman. Its one of the best romantic numbers ever made in Mollywood and it became so popular that it crossed 2.5 Lakh views withn 24 hours. Being an independent musician her latest project was ‘Thoni’ which is so far the biggest release from her and it became one of the most viewed independent projects.
