Chasing The Octaves, Gowry Lekshmi

Becoming a music director at an age of 13, that too for a Mohanlal movie, that’s something which you can’t see happening often. How was that experience?

I was too young to even contemplate the whole unexpected plot twist. Suddenly I’m being interviewed by channels and my photos are coming in newspapers, my song is getting played on radio. It was all so new for me. I felt happy but I doubt whether I knew the importance of such an opportunity then.

Obviously the first song composed will always be so close to the composer but apart from that which is your favorite among your independent compositions?

Among the released projects, my favorite ones are Yathra and Thazhvaaram but there are other songs close to my heart which are yet to be released.

Did you ever have to hunt for chances or opportunities to sing or perform in the mainstream music industry?

I haven’t chased any film person or music director. But of course I have told my favorite musicians that I would like to work with them. Still independent music is all about doing all that by me. When it comes to film and playback singing, then this hunt for chances is happening but I’m concentrating more on indie side.
