After the compulsory all day headlight on rule issued by the government for two wheeler earlier this year, the central government has issued another ordinance of compulsory AC cabins for all the trucks in the country.
This is in order to control the rate of road accidents happening in the country. As per the data provided by the Ministry of road transport and highways, 19.7% of the total road accidents were caused by heavy vehicles and this is the 25.6% of total death due to accident.
The ordinance for mandatory AC cabins in the trucks was issued in April 2017, The same period when BS-4 norms was implemented in the country, but The Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) has written to the government urging it to keep the decision to make AC cabin for trucks mandatory on hold and hence the deadline to have compulsory AC cabins was extended to Dec 31st 2017. The rule will be applicable to the vehicles which come under the N2 (Vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes) and N3 (Vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass exceeding 12 tonnes) categories.
