South India is always known for big budget and innovative movies, and to validate this statement yet another big budget movie has been announced. The movie is titled as “The Mahabharata” and is expected to have a budget of 1000 crore. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be playing the lead role in the movie. This big budget project will be directed by advertising film maker V.A Shrikumar Menon who is renowned for his creativity in advertisements for many national and international brands.
The movie will be produced in two parts, the shooting will commence in September 2018 and the film is expected to release in early 2020. The second part will release in 90 days after the release of the first part. The film will be made in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu and will be dubbed into major Indian languages and other major foreign languages. The epic project will feature both Indian and international artistes including Oscar winners. The team is even planning to hire a international casting director to have an effective artist selection from all over the globe. UAE-based Indian businessman Bavaguthu Raghuram Shetty who is the Chairman of UAE Exchange and NMC Healthcare will be producing this mammoth movie.
The plot for the movie is adopted from M T Vasudevan Nair’s Jnanpeeth Award winning novel ‘Randamoozham’ (The Second Turn), which narrates Mahabharata through the eyes of Bhima. The screenplay is written by the writer M T Vasudevan Nair himself, who holds a record of winning maximum number of National Awards for screenplay writing in the history of Indian cinema.
Months before the Baahubali director SS Rajamouli had also announced that he is also doing a movie based on Mahabharata and rumours were there that Mohanlal will be playing a important role in the movie but as per latest reports Aamir Khan is said to be doing the lead role in the movie which is yet to be officially announced.
