Ockhi is the name which bought nightmares into the life of people living along the coastlines of South India. Classified as very severe cyclonic storm, Ockhi claimed life of 52 people in Kerala which is just an estimated figure as more than 100 people are still missing after one of the most deadly natural disasters ever happened in the country.
It’s almost 5 months since the disaster hit on Kerala and there are families in the coastal areas of Kerala who are still waiting for their missing husband, son, father, friends etc, and they are still not ready to give up their hopes.
Shibu Thirumala, Director of Ockhi short film who is working as a creative director in an advertising company is a resident of Tiruvananthapuram city which is in proximity to Valiyathura, a coastal village where fishing is the livelihood of people. A journey made by him to Valiyathura after the Ockhi incident is what later became the story line of this film. The experiences and stories narrated by the fishermen who faced the death or life situation in the vast ocean is what Shibu has made into use for making this movie. Ockhi is a short film based on true story which is inspired from the life of fishermen and their family in Valiyathura.
Ockhi is produced by Nithin, Rakesh and Mahesh under the banner of 10G productions in association with Genuine cars and spa. Santhosh Marutham is the director of photography and Sukesh Bhadran assisting him. The editing and VFX is done by Vimal.
The story revolves around two friends Pappan and Jude which is portrayed on screen by Mahesh Lazar and Ajesh. Master Charles Mahesh also plays a pivotal role along with Disney James, an experienced Mollywood actor who fits into the role of narrator in the movie.
The Ockhi is having one song for which music is done by Renjith Raveendran, who is working in Qatar FM. Ajmal Mohammed is behind the vocals for which lyrics is penned by Gireeshkumar Sreelakom. Vipin has done the orchestration which is mixed by Sixth sense who also did the dubbing for the movie. The story, screenplay and dialogue are written by Shibu Thirumala. Brain bankers did the publicity designs.
Mad Garage is the online partner for this debut project from Shibu Thirumala, who is a National award winning ad film maker. Ockhi is his first independent project as a director and the efforts which he has put into the making of this film will be seen in every frame of this movie.
