In context with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment during his recent Mann ki baat radio programme to conserve oil and as a result to save the environment from pollution petrol pumps in eight states will be closed on Sundays starting from May 14th. The consortium of Indian petroleum dealers has also confirmed the same and they are also welcoming PM’s decision. The rule will make the petrol pumps at Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana closed on all Sunday from May 14th and that will be around 20,000 outlets closed with a revenue loss of Rs 150 crore for them.
Well but it’s kind of a strange decision by the government as closing petrol pump on Sundays means public will get their tanks filled on Saturday evening itself and as far as petrol pump owners are considered they won’t be having too much drop in their revenue as the customer will fill the petrol as per their need in advance to any holiday announcement. It would be the public who will be again in trouble as they will have to stand in long queue in front of petrol pumps to fill up their vehicles tank as they have to make a holiday outing on Sundays with family and they never get stuck on road without petrol.
People have just recently got bored of standing in front of ATM and banks due to demonetization rule by the government now it seems that they will have to stand in queue for fuel too. Saturday nights will soon become a night for fuel rather than a night for partying. Hope for some amendments for this rule soon.
