Rasika Shekar, A flute affair

Flute was an instrument which was once confined to folk and traditional music, but from one stage Flute music or flautist became an inevitable part of any major music concerts. When do you think this change happened in Indian music?

Flute was initially used in folk music and as a solo classical instrument but due to the recent evolution of music, it’s possible to fuse different genres of music like a fusion. Playing the Indian bamboo and jamming with a guitarist or drummer or a pianist all creates fabulous music and people love that too. So in the present age there is no differentiation between instruments.

Upcoming projects and future plans or dreams

There’s a new composition of mine for which I’ll be releasing a video soon. I had the good fortune of working with some really amazing artists from different parts of the world, so I’m quite excited about sharing that. I’m currently in NY and excited about 2 performances coming up in the next 2 weeks.

2017 has been a splendid year for Rasika as she graduated with a Masters in Music from Berklee College of Music, Boston, U.S.A. She was also invited for one of the special collaborator for a project that merged Indian music, Flamenco & Western Classical where she shared stage with the Grammy award winning legendary guitarist John McLaughlin. Mad Garage wishes her the brightest of future in her career ahead.
